CGGVeritas is implementing an Integrated Management System (IMS) based on the concept of Sustainable Development.
The new IMS, once fully implemented, will provide CGGVeritas with a differentiated methodology to gauge and continuously improve the effects of our activities in three pivotal areas:
- - Environmental Protection
- Social Progress
- - Economic Development
This differentiated approach will assist us in more fully aligning the elements of Quality, Health, Safety, Environment (QHSE) and Security, amongst others, under a consistent, consolidated and uniform management system.
What is Sustainable Development?
Sustainable development is a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It encompasses a balance between three major components:
- Environmental Protection
- Social Progress
- Economic Development

Global Challenges
Some of the most important Sustainable Development related challenges facing the world today include:
- Promoting responsible consumption and production patterns to reduce waste
- Reducing environment-related health problems that cause major diseases
- Measuring the true causes of global warming trends and the long-term results of climate change
- Ensuring that all people have access to the energy sources needed to improve their lives
- Improving access to clean water, to reach those who today rely on unsafe and unsanitary sources
- Alleviating poverty, especially in rural communities
- Improving the ability of developing countries to meet the challenges of globalization

Community Involvement
Sustainable Development also means that communities plan to use all of their resources in the best possible ways, such as:
- Re-use buildings that already exist before building new ones
- Recycle and use more renewable energy sources
- Provide affordable housing choices
- Encourage businesses that provide good jobs and don't hurt the environment
- Protect and restore wetlands, animal habitats and recreation land
- Offer safe transportation options, like buses, bike lanes and walking trails
In short, they make decisions by thinking about how those decisions will affect the community for future generations.
